Nipsey Hussle's alleged killer appears in court

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) Eric Ronald Holder, suspected of shooting and killing music artist and activist Nipsey Hussle in April, appeared in a Los Angeles court on Friday to be appointed a new public defender, after former OJ Simpson prosecutor Christopher Darden withdrew from the case citing death threats.

Hussle, 33, had parlayed his fame into a role as a community organizer and activist combating gang violence.

He was shot outside a clothing store he owned in south Los Angeles.

Police said the shooting was motivated by a personal dispute between Hussle and Holder, although they said it took place against a surge in gang-related violence and shootings in south Los Angeles in March.

Holder has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.
