New version of Anne Frank's diary could be originalIt's been 75 years since Anne Frank wrote her world famous work. And now, a new translation - what's being called a "stand-alone edition" of the Jewish teenager's journals - is about to be published in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. "Liebe Kitty" or in English, Dear Kitty, is an incomplete manuscript "of a girl who wanted to become an author." But Holocaust survivor Laureen Nussbaum - who knew Anne Frank and her family - told Reuters this book is the "original" diary that Anne had intended to publish in the first place and is the one that people should read. (SOUNDBITE) (English) HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR WHO KNEW ANNE FRANK, LAUREEN NUSSBAUM, SAYING: "This is the book that Anne wanted to write and to publish. The diary that we have read all the time (for so long) was Mr. Frank's (Anne's dad) amalgam of the original diary entries with the new version and it's kind of a mixture." The Anne Frank House museum says the work "brings the reader closer to the writer." Anne and her family hid from the Nazis during the second World War, living in a secret annex inside a house in Amsterdam - but they were discovered in 1944. Anne died aged 15 at Bergen Belsen concentration camp in 1945. Her diary was published two years later and has been read across the globe. | |||||
