The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike has decided to form special teams at the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) level to tackle any rain-related problem. Towards this end, each AEE will be made responsible for 50 km of roads, said N. Manjunath Prasad, BBMP Commissioner, on Thursday.

He told reporters that the AEEs would be responsible for ensuring rainwater does not stagnate on roads, waste is not piled up anywhere, potholes are filled, and drains are desilted.

“Until now, each of these works were being done independently. Henceforth, the AEEs will be responsible for these works,” he said.

He said the AEEs would be provided with road sweeper machines over the next 15 days. The BBMP has nine sweeper machines and over the next fortnight, 17 new machines would be handed over.

Mr. Prasad also said that seven teams under the forest cell would be formed soon.

The city witnessed heavy rain on Tuesday, during which nearly 70 trees got uprooted and 166 tree branches crashed, he said.
