PATNA: A foolproof summer safety plan has been implemented in all five divisions of the East Central Railway (ECR) as per the directives of the Railway Board to avert mishaps on tracks due to excessive heat.
“The railways has deployed safety staff at all vulnerable places, including bridges, to maintain smooth movement of passenger and goods trains either originating from or passing through the ECR’s jurisdiction in the summer season. It has also set up patrolling teams which will remain active from 11am to 4pm in all divisions,” ECR’s chief public relations officer (
CPRO) Rajesh Kumar said.
Besides, a
special action force has been set up to detect fault in tracks caused by excessive heat in summer. “It will begin repairing the damaged tracks on a priority basis to ensure the safety of passengers as well as railway property,” the CPRO told this reporter and added an emergency cell has been created to deal with any adverse situation.
All the divisions have been directed to check track fitness before running important passenger trains on hot days. Kumar said, “Railway safety officials are carrying out surprise inspections at different places during the day and at night. They are also counselling loco pilots, cabin men and station masters and asking them to remain alert on duty and follow summer safety rules strictly.”
The movement of trains is badly affected in the summer season due to track
buckling caused by excessive heat. Buckling often leads to derailment of trains if preventive steps are not taken in time.
