PUNE: A police constable attached to the
Paud police accepted Rs 2,200 as a bribe on the premises of the Sassoon Hospital on Friday and drove away in his car to avoid arrest by the
anti-corruption bureau (ACB), Pune.
An officer from the ACB said that while escaping the arrest, constable Yogesh Savane (33) drove his car in a dangerous manner. “We have registered an offence against him with the Bund Garden police,” the officer said.
He said that Savane had confiscated the complainant’s driving license and had demanded Rs 2,500 from him for not taking any action and returning the driving license. Later, Savane agreed on Rs 2,200 and told the complainant to come to the Sassoon Hospital with the money. “The constable accepted the money in his car. When he sensed trouble from the ACB, he drove away at a high speed from the hospital premises,” he said.
In another trap, the ACB officials arrested police constable attached to the Chatushrungi police station Sanjay Wagh while accepting Rs 20,000 as a bribe through a private person. A paan stall owner had lodged a complaint with the ACB.
The officer said that Wagh had demanded Rs 50,000 from the complainant by threatening him to take action for illegally selling cigarettes. Later, Wagh agreed on Rs 20,000. “We have arrested Wagh for accepting the bribe amount though a private person outside a hotel along the Pune-Mumbai highway,” the officer said.
A case has been registered against Wagh with the Chatushrungi police.
