The stage is set for the second phase of the elections to the Zilla Parishad and Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies on Friday.
The second phase of the three-phased election has been notified for 180 ZPTCs and 1913 MPTCs of which, one ZPTC and 63 MPTC members have been declared elected unanimously. More than 800 candidates are in the fray for the 180 ZPTCs and as many as 6,146 are contesting as MPTCs from different political parties, besides Independents.
Elections in the second phase will be held between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. in all the areas which are going to polls except for the five districts which are identified as Left-wing extremism-affected.
Election in these areas will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. as the election authorities would move the polling material from these places before sunset. The third and final phase of the elections will be held on May 14, but the results would be declared on May 27 in line with the Election Commission directive.
