Rain has been a muse for creative minds, be it poets, musicians, photographers, artists or filmmakers. ‘Endo mozhinjeedan’, a single released on YouTube, celebrates rain and its moods, taking listeners on a trip down rainy days of childhood and youth. The evergreen voice of P Jayachandran and up-and-coming singer Aparna Rajeev have evocatively captured the mood of the lyrics and the visuals.
The well-orchestrated, soothing melody is a production of Mumbai-based Music Mumbe. Written by Muralee and composed by P Sajith, the song and the music video featuring Aparna was shot in Thiruvananthapuram. “The tune and the lyrics evoke memories of monsoon. This is a song that immediately connects with listeners because of the theme, composition and visuals,” says Aparna.

With compliments coming in from various quarters for her rendition, Aparna, granddaughter of poet late ONV Kurup, is ecstatic. “Jayettan [Jayachandran] himself and Sujatha chechi [singer Sujatha] were among those who complimented me for my singing. It is wonderful to be appreciated by people I admire as musicians,” she says.
Music Mumbe, started by a group of music buffs, aims to promote original songs in regional languages. “We have already composed 10 songs, of which four have been released,” says Sajith. The first song was ‘Pokayo priyathe’ sung by Jayachandran, which has another version by Gayatri Asokan.
Meanwhile, Aparna says she hopes to associate with more independent works in future. “Having given ghazal concerts and stage performances, I want to concentrate on Carnatic music. I am taking lessons from Varkala CS Jayaram and Binni Krishnakumar,” says the musician.
