This Porsche 911 GT2 RS Somehow Hit 219 MPH (352km/h)

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS is one hell of a machine and a few weeks ago, we brought you a video of one hitting a top speed of 211 mph (340 km/h). However, the German car is capable of even more.

A silver GT2 RS recently took to the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in the U.S. and hit an incredible 219 mph (352 km/h). Sure, that may ‘only’ be 8 mph faster than we’ve seen the same model previously go but when you’re talking of vehicles exceeding 200 mph, every mile per hour counts and is hard to come by.

What is particularly surprising about this video is that Porsche claims the vmax of its range-topping 911 sits at 211 mph (340km/h) but evidently, that figure is somewhat conservative.

Now before you cry foul and assert that the speedometer of this GT2 RS might be off, the 219 mph figure posted by wasn’t based on what the car said but in fact measured by GPS. That means the speedometer inevitably exceeded 220 mph and if the car had an even longer runway to speed down, it may have actually kept on accelerating.

Powering the 911 GT2 RS is a 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine with 690 hp and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque. While these figures aren’t earth-shattering in a world of grand tourers with almost 800 hp, high-performance Porsche models have a habit of being even faster than their horsepower and torque figures may suggest.
