Congress Rajya Sabha member K. V. P. Ramachandra Rao has suddenly become very close to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao because he is interested in becoming Rajya Sabha Member a second time, Andhra Pradesh Minister of Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao alleged.
‘Work on track’
Addressing the media here on Wednesday, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said that Telangana had filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court asking it to stop construction of the Polavaram project because there was a danger of Bhadrachalam, the temple town, and the Manuguru Heavy Water Power Plant, getting submerged. But, Dr. Ramachandra Rao appeared least bothered.
The Minister said that all work at the project site was being done as per the recommendation of the Polavaram Project Authority, the Dam Design Review Committee and the Central Water Commission (CWC) and there was no scope for such events as alleged by Dr. Ramachandra Rao, he said.
Dr. Ramachandra Rao was behaving like he was Telangana Chief Minister’s “soulmate” only because he wanted the votes from the elected representatives of the State to get elected as Rajya Sabha member again, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said.
A dig at Jagan
YSR Congress Party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was not bothered at all even though Telangana approached the Supreme Court challenging construction of the project. Those who benefited from their association with former Congress Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy in Telangana joined the TRS and those in Andhra Pradesh joined the YSRCP, the Minister pointed out.
Where was Dr. Ramachandra Rao when N. Chandrababu Naidu was fighting with the Centre to transfer the seven mandals that would be submerged from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao asked.
