Mumbai: One person was killed and another was injured after a portion of their single-storey house collapsed after a heap of garbage fell on it from a hill at the Qureshi Nagar slums, Kurla east on Wednesday morning. The two persons extricated from the debris were identified as Abdul Rashid Qureshi, 48, and Rehmadi, 65. Both were rushed to the Lokmanya Tilak (Sion) hospital for medical treatment. Qureshi was declared dead on arrival by the hospital.
According to a fire official, they received a call about the collapse of a ground plus one structure, after which they rushed to the spot for rescue operations. Police and civic officials were also at the spot. Officials from the BMC’s disaster control department said the residents had been dumping metal and concrete debris on the hill for the last few months and the pile caved in, falling on the houses below.
