Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Deputy Commissioner, said on Wednesday that the 5% grants, reserved in the MP’s Local Area Development Fund and Legislator’s Local Area Development Fund for providing facilities to persons with disabilities, will be used only for it.
She was speaking after inaugurating the artificial limb centre and International Red Cross Day celebrations at the Red Cross Bhavan, here.
Ms. Korlapati said that the Red Cross Society had worked for the welfare of the people across the world.
The district administration fully backed the work of the the district unit of the society for people with disabilities.
The newly-opened centre will provide prosthetics to below the poverty line (BPL) families for free. The prosthetics will be provided at a concessional rate to others.
Prosthetics were distributed to seven persons with disabilities on the occasion.
Basrur Rajeev Shetty, Ashok Kumar Y.G., Balakrishna Shetty, Chandrashekhar T., of Red Cross Society, Niranjan Bhat, District Officer for Welfare of Persons with Disabilities, were present.
