Women’s gambling den busted, four arrested

Nagpur: In a first-of-its-kind incident in the city, Jaripatka police busted a gambling den running under the garb of ladies kitty party on Wednesday at Tetiya Chowk. Police have arrested four women while two others fled.
Sources said the two accused managed to flee due to lack of women police officials at the spot. Police department is already reeling under shortage of women constables, a police officer said.
The accused have been identified as Renu Sadhwani, Veena Rihani, Seema Sidhwani and Jyoti Harjani, all residents of Tetiya Chowk.
According to police, Renu and her husband regularly used to organize bhisi or kitty party resulting in crowd at the place all the time. But on the pretext of kitty party, the couple organized card games at their house.
Gambling was under way at the spot for the last four months. Police received a tip-off about the illegal activity, following which they laid a trap and raided the spot.
As soon as the spot was raided, two accused fled through the window from the back side, while police nabbed four of them. Police also seized Rs3,600 cash and other items from the spot.

The accused have been booked under sections of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act. The cops have launched a search for other accused. It is learnt that one of the absconding accused is the kingpin of the racket, along with Renu.
