BHOPAL: Body of missing 15-year-old boy was exhumed from Bhadbhada crematorium on Wednesday following intense protest and family pressure. The police had on Tuesday buried the unclaimed body. The deceased was later identified as Amit Sonkar, class 10 student a resident of Awadhpuri had gone missing on Monday after he left his house in the morning for cycling. Police had found a body of an unidentified boy in mutilated condition on Railway tracks at Habibganj Naka on Monday. A bicycle was found 10 meters away from the tracks. Police buried the body at Bhadbhada crematorium next day as no one identified it or claimed it.
When the family came looking for their missing child at police station, they identified the boy’s clothes which the police had kept after burying the body. The family staged protest at Habibganj police station demanding body of the boy for performing last rites. Police had to pacify deceased’s kin assuring that they would seek permission from administration to exhume the body.
Investigation officer (Habibganj) Amar Singh said, the body remained unidentified for last two days as no one came to claim it. However, on Tuesday, a family identified the clothes of the boy and claimed that he was Amit Sonkar. The family demanded the body of the boy but by that time its burial had already taken place. Under family pressure, the police then approached the district administration and after the permission of ADM, the body was exhumed and handed over to family members. ASP Akhil Patel said, body was unidentified and as per the established law, all such bodies are buried. Family members identified the deceased by his clothes. With permission of ADM, body was exhumed on Wednesday and handed over family members for last rites.”
