Ludhiana: Election commission launches mobile app for differently-abled voters

LUDHIANA: The election commission on Thursday launched a mobile phone application for voters with disabilities for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The application was launched so that such applicants can register themselves as voters, change their address details and mark themselves as persons with disabilities (PwD).
Official said that such applicants need to enter their contact details and a booth-level officer will be assigned to them for provide a door-step facility. Through this application, PwDs can also request for wheelchair at polling booths.

Cyclist Shamli Sharma, who won gold medal at the recently-held Special Olympics in Qatar, has been appointed as “icon” for Ludhiana district.
District election officer-cum-deputy commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agrawal said that a total of 5,708 PwD voters have been registered in the district. He said that efforts are being made to ensure maximum participation of these voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
