hollywood Updated: May 09, 2019 11:15 ISTHollywood filmmaker James Cameron has accepted defeat at the hands of Marvel’s latest film, Avengers: Endgame. The superhero film recently bumped Jim’s Titanic from the second position on the list of most successful movies ever made.
Jim tweeted a picture of the Titanic sinking into the ocean after hitting the Avenger’s logo. “To Kevin (Feige, producer) and everyone at Marvel, an iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my Titanic. Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement. You’ve shown that movie industry is not only alive and well, it’s bigger than ever,” he wrote in his tweet.

Several Marvel fans thanked him for his humble response and showed support for his upcoming Avatar movies. “Non petty king! Can’t wait Avatar 2!,” wrote a fan. Another asked if he has another tweet like this one ready for when Endgame dethrones his film Avatar as the most successful movie in the world. “It takes a lot to hand the baton like this. I can respect that. Now, you got another one of these things ready and waiting for A4 to take Avatar down? I hope so,” read a tweet.
Endgame has collected $2.2 billion in less than two weeks of its release. Titanic’s lifetime collections were $2.1 billion. Avengers is expected to eclipse Avatar, currently standing at $2.78 billion.
Jim’s appreciation for a Marvel movie comes as a big surprise considering how he has previously shown his disapproval for superhero movies. “I’m hoping we’re going to start getting Avenger fatigue. Not that I don’t love the movies. It’s just, come on, guys, there are other stories to tell besides, you know, hypogonadal males without families doing death-defying things for two hours and wrecking cities in the process.” Fans pointed out that Cameron has five Avatar sequels in the works and is currently producing the sixth film in his Terminator series. His comments came after Marvel’s Black Panther had crossed Titanic at the US box office.
In another instance, Cameron called Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman ‘a step backwards’ and the character ‘an objectified icon’. Jenkins issued the following response: “James Cameron’s inability to understand what Wonder Woman is, or stands for, to women all over the world is unsurprising as, though he is a great filmmaker, he is not a woman ... I believe women can and should be EVERYTHING just like male lead characters should be. There is no right and wrong kind of powerful woman.”
