2020 BMW M8 Will Allow Owners To Customize Engine, Steering, Suspension, Brakes, And More

BMW has dropped a handful of photos and details about the upcoming M8 Coupe and it’s immediately apparent that the company is not messing around with its latest performance weapon.

The company has announced that initially, the M8 will be sold in M8 Coupe and M8 Convertible guises and from launch, there will also be the M8 Competition Coupe and M8 Competition Convertible available to customers. While BMW hasn’t said what engines these vehicles will use, we know they will be powered by the marque’s twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine with upwards of 600 hp.

One new feature found across the BMW M8 range will be the Setup button. This new button in the center console will allow drivers to customize the engine, suspension, steering, brakes, and M xDrive system to their personal preference. According to the brand, the engine can be adjusted between Efficient, Sport, and Sport Plus while chassis options include Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus. In terms of the M-specific electromechanical steering and braking, there are Comfort and Sport options to choose from. The xDrive all-wheel drive system as 4WD, 4WD Sport, and 2WD settings.

The adjustable brakes are of particular interest and see the brake activation, brake boosted, and braking control functions all brought together into a single module. The Comfort and Sport settings alter the amount of pressure on the brake pedal needed to slow the car.

Another feature of the BMW M8 family will be the M Mode button in the center console. This button can be used to adjust the instrument cluster, Head-Up Display, and various driving modes, including a Track setting exclusively to the M8 Competition Coupe and M8 Competition Convertible.

BMW has yet to say when the M8 family will launch but we expect to see it unveiled in the coming few months.
