The ABC legal drama For The People has been canceled by ABC, according Deadline.

The legal drama, which followed six young attorneys working at the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, was the last new series to debut under the famed Shondaland banner before uber-producer Shonda Rhimes took her talents to Netflix. The series, which followed a proven blueprint for legal procedurals, was created by Rhimes' collaborative partner Betsy Beers, who also left ABC to continue her partnership with Rhimes at Netflix.

For the People had been a steady, if sometimes underwhelming performer for ABC. As of early 2019, For the People, which starred Hope Davis, Ben Shenkman and Anna Deavere Smith, kept some some edge over Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on NBC but lagged behind S.W.A.T. on CBS even though For the People's Season 2 premiere remained even with its first season average in the demo, according to TV By the Numbers.
