PSEB 10th result: Ludhiana district tops Punjab with 91 merit- listers

The overall pass percentage of the district has witnessed a rise of 15.7% — from 67.27% last year to 82.97% in 2019. Of the 39,742 students who gave the Class-10 exams in the district, 32,971 passed. The figure is astonishing as in 2017, the pass percentage was 49%; in 2016, it was 74.58%; while in 2015, it was 76.71%.

Ludhiana district tops Punjab with 91 merit- listers(HT)

As many as 91 of total 336 students on the merit list of the Punjab School Education board (PSEB), which declared the result for Class-10 exams on Wednesday, are from Ludhiana, making it the district with maximum top scorers.

The overall pass percentage of the district has witnessed a rise of 15.7% — from 67.27% last year to 82.97% in 2019. Of the 39,742 students who gave the Class-10 exams in the district, 32,971 passed. The figure is astonishing as in 2017, the pass percentage was 49%; in 2016, it was 74.58%; while in 2015, it was 76.71%.

City schools have been churning out toppers, year after year, credit of which district education officer (secondary) Swaranjit Kaur says goes to dedicated teachers, principals and hardworking students.

Another reason behind this remarkable feat can be attributed to continuous monitoring by district officials and subject mentors, who evaluated the learning levels of the students and made the school principals aware of the performance of their students.

Swaranjit Kaur said, “Majority of the Class-10 teachers took extra classes. The summer camp specially organised by math mentors to make the students achieve 100% marks has made the difference in the passing percentage and overall score of the students.”

In 2018, of 401 students who had made it to the provisional merit list, 94 were from Ludhiana. In 2017, of 379 students on the provisional merit list in the state, 113 were from the district. In 2016, of 335 students, 121 from district featured on this list.

Neha Verma has topped the state in the Class-10 PSEB exams by securing 647 marks out of 650.The second position is also being shared by two students from Ludhiana — Ankita Sachdeva and Anjali Garg. Both of them scored 99.23% marks.

However, the third position is being shared by three students from Ludhiana on the state merit list. All the students scored 644 marks out of 650.Abhigyan Kumar scored 99.07% marks and bagged the third rank in the state, who shared the spot with Aneesha Chopra, and Soni Kaur.

The fourth position has been secured by Sumant Sharma of Bhartiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Sector 39, Chandigarh Road and Khushi of BCM Senior Secondary School, Focal Point. Both of them scored 98.92% marks.
