Standing true to its name, the Mclaren GT is a thoroughbred Grand Tourer.
British hypercar maker Mclaren has revealed its plans for the latest in its lineup, the Mclaren GT. Making its official debut on May 15, the car features a mid-engine layout, which is different from the usual GT cars.
Standing true to its name, the Mclaren GT is a thoroughbred Grand Tourer. It is positioned between the Sport and Super series and is claimed by Mclaren to be a game changer in its category. It is said to combine a continent-crossing ability with the Mclaren’s iconic dynamics and lightweight attributes.
The GT shares some elements with the Mclaren Speedtail, a spiritual successor of the F1 which was one of the most successful cars of the British company. In the teaser image released by Mclaren, the car features sleek LED tail lamps along with signature Mclaren aerodynamic contours.
Mclaren has diverted from the conventional GT standards, by placing their GT’s engine in the middle. It is expected to be a revised version of the M840T 4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which can be found in all the other Mclarens as well.
The car is expected to be built around an improved Monocage-II, which is Mclaren’s lightweight carbon-fibre shell. This makes the car lightweight, as well as friendlier on the streets than other Mclarens.
The GT will be the fourth car from Mclaren’s Automotive Track25 business plan, following the 600LT, Speedtail and the 720S Spider.
