Nilgiris district superintendent of police (SP) D Shanmuga Priya has introduced ‘Nilgiris Brigade’ to assist the tourists visiting the hill retreat this year.
She said 100 volunteers have been selected to guide the tourists at Coonoor, Ooty and Doddabetta areas. These volunteers will be seen clad in custom printed yellow t-shirts with a text that reads ‘NilgirisBrigade - May I Help You’.
“We have selected 35 volunteers from Udhagamandalam town, 40 from Coonoor and 25 from Doddabetta. They will be deployed in important tourist spots in these three areas to assist the tourists. They will also advise the people to drive their vehicles carefully on the ghat roads,” Shanmuga Priya said.
This summer season, there is a heavy flow of tourists to the botanical garden, boat house, Dolphin’s Nose view point, Doddabetta, Sim’s Park in Coonoor, Catherine Falls near Kotagiri, Pykara, Lamb’s Rock and Avalanche.
