Heat sears Telangana, Andhra Pradesh as mercury past 46° C

HYDERABAD/VIJAYAWADA: Intense heat wave conditions in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have kept the mercury hovering over 46 degree Celsius at many places in both the states. The cyclonic storm 'Fani' had depleted moisture in the atmosphere from the two states, further intensifying the heat severity, IMD officials said.

With temperatures in Khammam, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Mahbubabad and Jagtial touching 45 to 46 degree Celsius, IMD has warned of heat wave like conditions in Telangana till May 10 and the mercury is expected to touch 47 to 48 degree Celsius during the month.
In AP, the capital region bore the brunt of the summer sun. Pedakurapadu in Guntur recorded 46.68 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. According to AP State Development Planning Society (APSDPS) data, six places across the state witnessed temperatures between 46 and 47 degrees Celsius.
