Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said that the Congress would not let the secular ideology of the nation to be destroyed.
“India belongs to all religions, which is its strength, and the Congress would not allow anyone to destroy its cherished secular values,” said Capt. Amarinder at Sardulgarh in Bathinda as he sought votes for change and for the protection of the nation’s secular fabric.
Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his failure to fulfil any of his pre-poll promises, the Chief Minister said that the Prime Minister had been fooling people with his jumlas (gimmicks), and his attempts to take credit for the armed forces’ offensive against Pakistan would only divide the nation.
“The Modi government did nothing for any section of society, particularly the farmers, who were suffering because of its anti-farmer policies. It was the Congress government in the State which came to the farmers’ rescue with the loan waiver scheme,” he said, adding that party president Rahul Gandhi had also promised debt waiver across the country.
Capt. Amarinder said that it was only the Congress which could ensure the State’s and the country’s progress, and fill the 1.2 lakh vacancies that the previous Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP government had ignored.
