Vishwavijaya, former junior seer of Pejawar Mutt, who quit as junior seer of the Pejawar Mutt in 1987, has filed a suit in a civil court here on Wednesday urging it to declare the selection of the junior seer of Puttige Mutt, done recently, as null and void.
Sugunendra Tirtha Swami of Puttige Mutt appointed a software engineer, Prashanth Acharya, as his successor or junior seer of Puttige Mutt at Puttige village, near here, on April 22, 2019.
All the seven seers of the Ashta Mutts, including the junior seer of Puttige Mutt, have been named as defendants in the suit filed by Vishwavijaya.
According to the suit, among other things, a person selected as junior seer should have knowledge of Sanskrit, Vyakarna, Vedanta and Tarkas, which, according to Vishwavijaya, the junior seer of Puttige Mutt did not have. Hence, the suit, Vishwavijaya has said.
