Nurses day celebrated

The nursing department of the Madras Medical Mission (MMM) celebrated Nurses Day on May 8.

According to a press release, the International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on May 12, the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, founder of modern day nursing. The theme for 2019 was “Nurses, a voice to lead — health for all”.

M. Sudhakar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anna Nagar, in his speech, emphasised on the prominent role of nurses. He said they had a great responsibility to improve the health of the population.

P.R. Ashwin Vijay, director, OJAS Ortho, said nursing had evolved into a profession with a wealth of skills and professional knowledge. Sufficient, adequately trained and motivated nurses were essential for the health of the population, he added.

Ranjitham Anderson, chief nursing officer, MMM, spoke on the occasion. Among others, K. Jacob, secretary, George Cherian, director, administration and S. Rajan, director, Cardiac Surgery, MMM, were present.
