Sports nuts who like to get up early to watch men in shorts run around after a ball may well be punching the air right about now.

Hunt for driver after elderly man killed in St Albans hit-run

More on that fatal hit-run at St Albans last night.

The driver behind a hit-run that killed an elderly man in Melbourne's north-west would have "no doubt" they struck a person, police say.

A 78-year-old man died after being hit by a car at the corner of Main Road East and Erica Avenue in St Albans about 9pm on Wednesday.

Senior Constable Adam West said police believe the driver would have "no doubt at all they'd struck a pedestrian" and the car would have "significant damage".

The car did not stop and is yet to be found.

Baby Sussex has a name, but no royal title

Baby Sussex has a name, and it took almost everybody by surprise: Archie Harrison, reports our Europe correspondent Nick Miller.

Or, to give him his full title, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

After taking their two-day-old son to meet the Queen at Windsor Castle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the announcement everyone had been waiting for.

Archie was not on any of the predictive lists of royal watchers or bookmakers, who had been throwing around establishment favourites such as Alexander, James, Arthur, Albert or Spencer.

According to media reports, the Queen did not bestow a royal title on Archie – most likely at his parents’ request.
