Ekbote assaulted near Saswad

PUNE: About 50 persons have been booked by the Pune rural police for allegedly assaulting Hindutva leader Milind Ekbote, who himself is an accused in the Koregaon Bhima violence case, at Zendewadi village, near Saswad, in Purandar taluka of the district.

The incident took place on Tuesday at around 10.45 pm. The police said that Ekbote and Pandit Modak, who runs a goshala (shelter homes for cows), had an argument between themselves over the running of the shelters. Both had commented about each other on Facebook. 

According to the police, Ekbote had gone to Maruti temple in Zendewadi. While Ekbote was eating prasad, Modak and his accomplices assaulted him. Ekbote’s associates were assaulted. Some of them have sustained injuries after being attacked with knives. 

Based on a complaint from Ekbote (63), a resident of Shivajinagar, an FIR was registered against Pandit Modak, Vivek Modak and their 50 accomplices. Ekbote is also the President of Samast Hindu Aghadi, an association of various rights organisations.
