Youth beaten to death in Swaroop Nagar, friend injured

Kanpur: Two cases of murders reported in the city one after another since late Wednesday night have raised questions on law and order situation in the city.
A youth was beaten to death on Wednesday night while in another case a property dealer was found dead at his home on Thursday.
A 28-year-old youth Saranjeet Singh alias Prince was beaten to death while his friend Shiva was critically injured after five-masked motorcycle-borne men attacked them in Swaroop Nagar police station area on late Wednesday night.
Saranjeet, a native of Raebareli, used to live at his in-laws’ place in Gurunanak Nagar area, said the police. “He worked at a store in a mall of Tilak Nagar. On Wednesday night, he along with his friend Shiva, a resident of Sarvodaya Nagar, was returning on a two-wheeler when five masked men attacked them with iron rods near a gym close to Swaroop nagar police station,” said police.
“Some passersby informed the police and rushed them to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital where Saranjeet was declared brought dead. Shiva, who was critically injured is under treatmen,” said Circle Officer Swaroop Nagar Ajit Singh Chauhan.
The police have procured CCTV footages, he added. The body was sent for postmortem examination. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of IPC including 302 (murder) at Swaroop Nagar police station.
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old property dealer was found dead with serious injury marks on his body in his Naman Vihar Naubasta residence under mysterious circumstances on Thursday. The body was found near the doors of his room.
The incident came to light when his wife Siyapyari returned home from her parent’s house in Fatehpur on Thursday morning following which the police was alerted. A case of murder was registered.

“Prahlad was battered to death with a heavy and a blunt object. The house was ransacked so we are suspecting it to be case of robbery or personal enmity,” said SP South Raveena Tyagi. The police haven’t ruled out possibility of a property dispute behind the incident, said an official adding that preliminary investigation suggests role of someone known to the family.
SSP Anant Deo and SP South Raveena Tyagi along with forensic experts and police team arrived at the spot. The body was sent for postmortem examination. Investigation is underway and the police are questioning people close to the family, an official added.
