Bhopal: Much to the embarrassment of Congress, as its candidate Digvijaya Singh, flanked by religious leader Namdev Tyagi alias Computer Baba led the roadshow on Wednesday, people greeted the cavalcade shouting ‘Modi-Modi’. Seeking to counter BJP’s Hindutva plank, hundreds of sadhus chanted “Jai Shree Ram” as they took part in a roadshow which commenced from Peer Gate and after moving through main roads of the city concluded at Nadra Bus stand. As rally reached Jain Square, a few businessmen started sloganeering for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. To counter them, the sadhus in Digvijaya’s rally started raising pro- Rahul Gandhi slogans. Kotwali police later registered a case against unidentified protestors. Arrests will be made on the basis of TV and mobile footage.
Several saffron and white robes-clad saints holding the Congress’ and saffron flags shouted “Jai Shree Ram” while campaigning in support of Digvijaya, who is pitted against BJP candidate Pragya Thakur, a Hindutva activist. Some seers participating in the roadshow said they want the Ram temple to be constructed in Ayodhya at the earliest. Some police personnel, both men and women, in plain clothes were seen sporting saffron ‘gamchha’ (a cloth worn around shoulders and neck) during the roadshow. On Tuesday, a group of sadhus performed ‘hatha yog’ and did ‘havan’ to ensure Singh wins the election.
