SC to hear Babri Masjid land dispute case today

The Supreme Court will hear Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case today. The case was referred to mediation for exploring the possibility of an amicable settlement.

A five-judge Constitution bench comprising Chief justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justices S A Bobde, D Y Chandrachud, Ashok Bhushan and S Abdul Nazeer will hear the matter.

The matter will be heard for the first time since March 8th order of the apex court which had referred the case for mediation by a panel for exploring the possibility of an amicable settlement.

The panel is headed by former apex court judge Fakkir Mohamed Ibrahim Kalifulla. Other two members on the panel are spiritual guru Sri Ravishankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu.

The apex court had said that the mediation process would commence within a week and the panel would submit the progress report within four weeks. The panel was asked by the apex court to hold in-camera proceedings and complete them within eight weeks.
