Ramnad improves performance while Sivaganga came out with dismal show

The district which had slumped to the 16th position in plus one examinations last year, redeemed some pride, securing 7th position this year with overall pass percentage of 97.33 in the examinations, results of which were announced on Wednesday.

After the government conducted board examinations for plus one students for the first time last year, the district had recorded overall pass percentage of 93.35 and improve it substantially this year.

In all, 14,431 students from 148 schools appeared for the examinations and 14,045 of them - 6,476 boys and 7,569 girls passed, Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao said. Girls outshone boys with 98.36% pass, he said. He said 67 schools, including 20 government schools and 14 government aided schools recorded cent per cent pass. All the 30 differently abled students passed, he added.

Sivaganga which had secured the 9th state rank last year, slumped to the 16th position this year with overall pass percentage of 96.17. A total of 16,012 students, including 9,003 girls from 155 schools appeared for the examinations and 15,398 students passed, officials said. Fifty three schools, including 10 government schools recorded 100% pass, they said. Officials said the failed students would be allowed to move to plus two and would be given at least two opportunities to clear the failed subjects.
