TikTok says it has reclaimed top spot on app stores in India TikTok, a popular short video platform that was banned in India for week in April, said it has reclaimed the top spot as the number one top free app on Apple app store and as top free app in the Social category on the Google Play Store, following its return on Indian app stores.

TikTok had faced a setback after the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court imposed a temporary ban on download of the app last month, saying it serves as a platform for the distribution of explicit and inappropriate content likely to harm children.

The ban on new downloads was lifted on April 24, after TikTok assured the court that it would take steps to ensure children are protected on the application.

The company has said it has 120 million monthly active users in India. Total users stand at 200 million.

TikTok said it has launched #ReturnOfTikTok, its latest brand campaign which launched with an exciting in-app challenge. As part of the challenge, TikTok users are expressing their happiness with the #ReturnOfTikTok by sharing creative videos on the platform along with #shareandwin hashtags.

“The launch of #ReturnOfTikTok is a testament of our continuing commitment to our Indian community. We are looking forward to continuing our journey with our TikTok family and actively work towards ensuring a safe and positive in-app experience for our users,” said Sumedhas Rajgopal, Entertainment Strategy and Partnerships Lead, TikTok (India).
