MANGALURU: City police personnel from Bajpe police station on Wednesday arrested a person on charges of duping youths by posing as senior official of ONGC and assuring them jobs in the Maha Ratna company. The accused Rama Prasad Rao, 33, a resident of Kanthanagar in Paduperar village in Mangaluru taluk, while posing as general manager in ‘ONGC Petro Chemical Ltd’ cheated 13 youths to the tune of Rs 22.75 lakh.
"The accused prepared fake identity card ‘ONGC HRO’, seals resembling that of actual company, downloaded the logo and employment forms of the Maharatna company from its website, distributed it to youths from whom he had obtained the money. The youths were asked to send the forms to a fake e-mail id and would send ‘appointment orders’ using a seal readied at cyber centre", city police chief Sandeep Patil said.
Based on a complaint from Sampath Shetty, a victim, a person identifying himself as Ajit Gaurav Sharma, GM of ‘ONGC Petro Chemical Ltd’ had duped him, a case was registered at Bajpe police station. Police recovered computer paraphernalia including CPU, keyboard, mouse, monitor, colour printer, fake seal, identity card and a dual SIM mobile phone used to create the fake email id. Police are investigating the case.
