KOLKATA: The Entally police arrested one of the main accused in the Adhir Maiti
murder case at
Pragati Maidan, in which ex-Trinamool councillor
Sambhunath Kow has been convicted.
The police carried out special anti-crime drives in the area and nabbed Jyoti Roy alias Langra Jyoti, a most wanted criminal for the
2013 murder case.
"We had information that Jyoti was getting involved in petty thefts in and around Tangra, Motijheel, and Entally. A couple of weeks ago, we picked him up and during interrogation, he confessed to his links with arms suppliers and several criminals in the eastern suburbs. When the detective department was contacted, they confirmed this was the same person they had been searching for the past five years. He has been sent to police custody," said a senior investigating officer.
Police sources said Jyoti had not only executed the murder but had also roped in others for the crime. Following the murder, Jyoti would keep changing his hideouts to dodge the cops.
