'We encourage consumers who have purchased affected product to discard the food or return it to the retailer for a full refund or exchange,' the recall stated.

The affected batch was sent out to retailers across Australia and the company said it was working with them to get all contaminated products off the shelves.

'We understand that this recall may be concerning to pet owners, however no other My Dog varieties or batches are affected by the recall,' the recall stated.

Individual products and six packs have not been affected by the contamination.

However if any consumers feel their product may have started out in a 12 pack they are encouraged to check the use by date. If the date stamp reads '061220' then the product may be from the contaminated batch.

Customers with fears over their pet's health are also encouraged to contact a vet immediately.

Any consumers looking for more information are urged to visit the My Dog website at mydog.com.au or call customer care on 1800 640 111.
