Android Q Beta available for OnePlus 6T\, Realme 3 Pro\, Mi MIX 3 5G\, and more: everything you should know

Google released the Android Q Beta 3 at its annual I/O developers conference yesterday. However, the new beta build is not just for Pixel phones, but is available for 15 smartphones from OEMs such as Sony, OnePlus, Nokia, OPPO, Xiaomi, Realme, and others. Some of these brands have already released developer previews for its devices. Let’s take a look at which phones are receiving the Android Q beta update. 

OnePlus 6/6T Android Q Beta

OnePlus was one of the first to release the Android Q developer preview after Google’s announcement. The Chinese manufacturer released a beta build for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. It also stated that a preview build will also be available for the upcoming OnePlus 7 series. The Android Q beta for OnePlus 6/6T is in early stages and has plenty of bugs. A lot of features aren’t currently working in this build, so we wouldn’t suggest it as a daily driver.

According to OnePlus, the Camera app doesn’t work perfectly and there are plenty of other system stability issues. The Ambient display also doesn’t work and several apps will crash. Users who went ahead and installed the beta are complaining that the phone has become extremely laggy, fingerprint scanner isn’t working, Wi-Fi is unstable, Quick Charging is unreliable, and more. If you still want to try it out, then you can head over to this link and download the respective firmware for the phones.

Realme 3 Pro Android Q Beta

Realme has also released the Android Q beta update for the Realme 3 Pro (review). If you want to try out the new software, you can join the developer program and download the beta. As of now, only the Realme 3 Pro is supported. The Android Q beta is in its vanilla form and doesn’t include any ColorOS 6 features or UI elements.

Once again, as this is a beta, plenty of features aren’t working and you shouldn’t use it if the Realme 3 Pro is your daily driver. For starters, the fingerprint scanner doesn’t work, the phone dialer keeps crashing when using dual SIM cards, the camera app has bugs, Adaptive Brightness is non functional, and many more. Security features such as PIN/Pattern passwords are also not working. 

Nokia 8.1 Android Q Beta

The Nokia 8.1 (review)  is also receiving the Android Q beta update. Users will need to head over to the Nokia Developer site and sign up to received the beta firmware via OTA. The Nokia 8.1 runs stock Android Pie, so you will not notice a lot of new changes apart from the new gestures for navigation, dark theme, and better privacy features. As always, since this is a beta, there will be plenty of bugs and some features may not even work properly. 

HMD Global also cautions that if you install the Android Q beta on the Nokia 8.1, there’s no way to rollback to Android 9 Pie. Don’t worry though, as HMD Global has promised to support manual rollback by the 16th of May. Perhaps you should wait until then to install the beta software.

Xiaomi MI 9 and Mi MIX 3 5G Android Q Beta

Xiaomi has released the Android Q beta update for the Mi 9 and the Mi MIX 3 5G devices. If you want to try the new software on your device, you can head over to the Mi Forum and download the required firmwares. The company has provided a list of all the known issues that you may face after installing the beta build.
On the Xiaomi Mi 9, the fingerprint scanner doesn’t work, the alarm doesn’t ring when the screen is off, wireless display feature causes the phone to restart, Settings app force-quits when performing certain actions, and a lot more. The Mi MIX 3 5G will also encounter similar problems with the Android Q beta software. Check out the forum link above to see the entire list of issues. 
Apart from these devices, the OPPO Reno series will also be receiving the Android Q beta update today. The manufacturer was present at Google I/O to demonstrate Android Q on the Reno smartphone and its 5G capabilities.
