Man booked for running over dog in Lokhandwala

mumbai Updated: May 09, 2019 02:36 ISTThe Versova police recently booked an unidentified driver for allegedly running over a dog last week in Lokhandwala. The incident came to light after Aditya Singh, a film director, who witnessed the incident on May 2, approached the police.
Based on the car’s registration number, provided by Singh, the police identified a person on Tuesday, but are yet to ascertain whether he was the one who was driving the car at the time of the alleged crime.
According to the police, Singh was outside Raj Yoga Society at Lokhandwala Back Road when he saw the car run over the dog last Thursday. When Singh had tried to stop the car, the driver had said, “If the dog is sitting on the road then what can I do?” and driven away. “Singh then took the dog to a veterinary hospital in Parel where the doctor told him the dog’s leg was fractured,” said an officer.
The police then registered a case under sections 11(1) (a) (punishment for animal cruelty) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and 336 (act of endangering life and personal safety of others) and 428 (punishment for mischief or maiming an animal) of the IPC. They said they have checked the CCTV footage of the area.
