HYDERABAD: With a pass percentage of 99.27, Class X students from
Telangana bettered the national average of 98.54% in the ICSE results announced on Tuesday. In the Class XII (ISC) results though, state schools reported a marginal drop of 2.06%, in comparison to last year’s pass percentage of 97.73.
Two students from St Joseph’s Public School — Garvit Daga and Rudransh Agarwal — emerged as state toppers in
ISC and ICSE respectively. Unfortunately though, for the third consecutive year, students from Telangana failed to make it to the national toppers list.
According to Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), of the 4,364 students who appeared for ICSE this year, 4,332 cleared it while 707 of the 739 students cleared their ISC. The all-India pass percentage for ICSE 98.54 and for ISC it is 96.52.
While students attributed the drop in ISC pass percentage to tough question papers, teachers gave a different perspective. “There is no particular reason for the drop in pass percentage. Syllabus for ISC students is vast and few may find it difficult to clear,” said V Jayashree, headmistress of Sri Aurobindo International School.
As many as 32 students failed in ICSE and ISC each, this year. For the first time, the CICSE introduced compartmental exams for students who failed to clear their exams. “This is the first time that all ICSE, ISC students will be allowed to appear for compartmental exams so that they do not lose an academic year. While the exam will be held in July, the result will be declared by August 5,” said Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of CICSE.
Many city schools recorded a significant rise in the number of students, who scored high marks. For example, in Hyderabad Public School, of the 56 students who appeared for ISC, 12 students secured above 90% marks with eight students securing 100% marks in various subjects. Similarly, of the 239 students who appeared for ICSE, 56 students secured above 90% and 164 secured above 75%.
The trend of girls outshining boys continued as their pass percentage stood at 99.73% in ICSE and 98.11% in ISC as against 98.79% and 92.41% respectively for the boys. The scores took into account English and the best four subjects in which they scored the highest.
The pass percentage in most of the 40 ICSE schools and 15 ISC schools in the state stood at 100%.
Among them were schools such as Sri Aurobindo International School, Johnson Grammar School (ICSE), St Joseph’s Public School, Malakpet, Nasr School, Gitanjali Devshala, and Gitanjali Senior School among others.
