Heatwave grips Prakasam, Nellore

People remained indoors as the heatwave prevailed in Prakasam and Nellore districts on Tuesday.

Heatwave conditions would continue to prevail in the coastal districts till May 11, according to an India Meteorological Department (IMD) weather bulletin.

While usually busy roads in Ongole wore a deserted look even around 11.00 am, the busy VRC centre in Nellore witnessed lean vehicular traffic.

Those who came out tried to beat the heat by having coconut water and fruit juice.

Donakonda in Prakasam district witnessed the highest temperature of 46°C followed by Chimakurthy(45.1°C), Gudlur(44.9°C), Markapur(43°C), Kangiri (43°C) and Giddalur(42°C).

In Nellore district, the highest temperature was recorded in Venkatagiri(48°C), followed by Udayagiri(46°C), Kavali(45°C), Nellore(44°C), Varikuntapadu(44°C) and Atmakur (42°C).
