More than 26 people suffered injuries after two buses collided near Thorapalli in Gudalur on Tuesday.
Police said the vehicles involved in the accident were a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus headed to Mysore from Udhagamandalam, and a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus bound for Gudalur from Bokkapuram in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR).
The collision is said to have occurred at a narrow section of the road near Thorapalli. The drivers of both vehicles, A. Jaleel (43) of Masinagudi and A. Bannari (56) from Bandipura in Karnataka, were among the injured. Both of them were referred to hospitals in Kerala and Karnataka. Two children, aged six and four, suffered minor injuries. Police suspected that speeding by one of the drivers or both could have led to the accident. A case has been registered.
