MUMBAI: A 23-year-old man working on contract with a
railway power project company recently lost three of his
toes while trying to board a long-distance
train from the wrong side.
Kiran Donde said his foot got stuck in the
wheel of the train and he had to yank it off within seconds to save the rest of his body from going under.
The incident occurred last week. Donde lives in Kalyan and works in the yard near
LTT. Every night, he would hop onto a
long-distance train to go home.
“Five days ago, it was well past midnight when I hurried out of the yard to go home. A train was leaving for Varanasi from LTT. It was the last train for the night from LTT and I couldn’t miss it. I ran towards the wrong side and tried to get into a coach using the ladder. The train was moving. While hoisting myself up, I slipped. One of my legs was on the ladder, while the other got stuck in the wheel of the train,” he said.
He returned to the yard. His colleagues took him to Rajawadi Hospital. His giant toe and two toes next to it were amputated.
