City police attached to
Bajpe police station on Wednesday
arrested a person on charges of
duping youth by posing as a senior official of
ONGC, and assuring them jobs in the Maharatna company. The accused in
Rama Prasad Rao, 33, a resident of Kanthanagar in Paduperar village in Mangaluru taluk, who posing as general manager in ‘ONGC Petro Chemical Ltd’ cheated 13 youth to the tune of Rs 22.75 lakh.
“The accused prepared fake identity card ‘ONGC HRO’, seals resembling that of the actual company, downloaded the logo and employment forms of the Maharatna company from its website and distributed it to youth from whom he had obtained the money. He made them send it to fthe ake e-mail id hromplindia@gmail.com he created on his cell phone, and sent ‘appointment orders’ using a seal readied at cyber centre,” city police chief Sandeep Patil said.
Based on a complaint from Sampath Shetty, one such youth who got cheated that a person identifying himself as Ajit Gaurav Sharma, GM of ‘ONGC Petro Chemical Ltd’ had duped him, a case was registered in Bajpe police station. Police recovered computer paraphernalia including CPU, keyboard, mouse, monitor, colour printer, fake seal, identity card and a dual SIM mobile phone used to create the fake email id. Police are investigating the case.
