Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday said that the AAP government has been a total failure in delivering on its promises, and it only took credit for the works done by her Congress government during its 15-year rule in Delhi.
“AAP government and the BJP government together destroyed the path of development that was charted out by the Congress with vision and great effort and halted the development works started by the Congress government,” she said.
Calling Chief Minster Arvind Kejriwal a “poster boy”, Ms. Dikshit said that AAP had spent public money on advertisements instead of infrastructure. “The Kejriwal government squandered ₹611 crore on self-publicity in the last four years, for putting out advertisements not only in the newspapers of Delhi, but also in the media of other States, and for contesting elections in other States, which was a waste of the tax payers’ money,” Ms. Dikshit said.
The Congress Campaign Committee chairperson Subhash Chopra on Tuesday alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party had not added to the robust infrastructure that successive Congress governments in the city had built up and had stopped the development of the city.
“Not even a single university has been started by them. Forget university, not even a single college has been started by them and they claim to be working towards education, alleged Mr. Chopra. He alleged that when the Congress government came to power, electricity and water supply were the major problems. Those issues have vanished now because of the three-term Congress government.
“The Sheila Dikshit government built 66 flyovers, 67 foot overbridge and 29 subways to de-congest the city. What has the Aam Aadmi Party done?” Mr. Chopra questioned. He added that the Kejriwal government has virtually destroyed public transport in Delhi as nearly 1,272 DTC buses have vanished from the DTC fleet putting those commuters who solely depend on public transport, into great difficulty. He said that the metro fairs were hiked twice in a year with the collusion of the AAP government with the BJP government at the Centre, and as a result, 4.2 lakh commuters have deserted the metro service.
Tearing into the AAP’s bijli-half pani maaf campaign, DPCC working president Haroon Yusuf said that AAP has increased fixed costs that consumers have to pay irrespective of whether they use electricity or not. He also accused AAP of not doing enough to curb pollution which was becoming a health hazard in the city. In the field of school education, Mr. Yusuf alleged that in the last four years, 1.29 lakh students have left government schools and that the AAP government built only 9 schools despite having 52 plots at its disposal, whereas AAP manifesto had promised to build 500 schools in four years, he said.
