Less than a week after municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta directed civic officials to work with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRC) to ensure the city does not flood during the upcoming monsoon owing to Metro construction work, the MMRC on Wednesday began its pre-monsoon measures.

The MMRC said it issued detailed directives to its engineers and contractors. It also said a joint inspection with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) officials for all Metro-3 construction sites took place earlier.

Ashwini Bhide, managing director, MMRC said “We are working in close co-ordination with civic officials to ensure no inconvenience is caused to Mumbaiites owing to Metro-3 construction work. All emergency equipment and vehicles will be deployed in flooding-prone areas and there will be no issues related to traffic or water logging. The MMRC had ensured no waterlogging around their construction sites during the last monsoon and the same would be ensured during the upcoming monsoon as well’’.

On Saturday, in a monthly review meeting, Mehta asked his engineers to organise a joint meeting with MMRDA and MMRC, anticipating flooding this monsoon because of Metro construction work.
