Vigyan Samagam, a mega science exhibition organised by the Department of Atomic Energy and the Department of Science and Technology, will be kicked off in the city on Wednesday.
The exhibition will be open to the public from May 8 to July 7 at Nehru Science Centre in Worli. The exhibition will then travel to Bengaluru, Kolkata and New Delhi over a span of 11 months and come to a close in March 2020. The exhibition promises to take visitors through the workings of the universe such as the discovery of the Higgs boson particle, gravitational waves and merger of neutron stars and black holes.
The projects will throw light on crucial questions related to the origin of the universe and its evolution. Mega Science Projects like the Large Hadron Collider at the European Organization for Nuclear Research, Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research, India-based Neutrino Observatory, International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor, Laser Interferometer Gravitational - Wave Observatory, Thirty Meter Telescope and Square Kilometre Array will be showcased at a single place during the exhibition.
Arun Shrivastava, secretary of the Atomic Energy Commission, said, “The exhibition will have theme-based galleries of posters, working models and exhibits, informative audio-visual content and interactive kiosks. The inaugural event will be followed by a two-day scientific event comprising invited talks and lectures by eminent speakers from the field of science, technology and industry.”
The exhibition will also act as a space for interactive convergence of international science projects, academia and an industry driven by science and technology. “The exhibition aims to connect with students and aspirants who want to pursue fundamental science and research as a strong career option. It will provide a unique platform to all stakeholders for cross-fertilisation of ideas,” said Dr. Praveer Asthana, head of Mega-Science Divisions, Department of Science and Technology.
The exhibition will be open on all days, including Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 10 a.m to 6 p.m.
