Pune: Teen claims lover’s parents set him ablaze

PUNE: A 19-year-old chicken vendor, who sustained serious burn injuries, claimed that parents of a woman he was in a relationship with set him ablaze on May 3 at Indapur after he professed his love for her.
The man recorded his statement before the Indapur police on Tuesday after the police officers visited him in hospital at Solapur.
Police said the woman and the man were in a relationship for the past one year. Assistant inspector Ajit Jadhav of Indapur police station told TOI, “The woman got married recently, but the man kept on professing his love for her.”
On Tuesday, the man claimed that the parents of the woman called him on May 3 and asked him to not to stay in touch with their daughter. They then set him ablaze. Police have filed a case of attempt to murder against the woman’s family members.
