LUDHIANA: Five
students of GRD Academy had a miraculous escape after the school bus they were travelling in caught fire on Wednesday afternoon. The bus caught fire after it came in contact with low tension electricity supply line in Saroop Nagar in Salem Tabri. The students were evacuated with the help of people in the locality and conductor of the bus. At the time of the incident only five students were inside the bus.
According to eyewitnesses, around 3pm the bus came in contact with
high tension wires, one wire also fell on the bus. The driver of the bus tried to control the fire by putting sand over it but it went out of control. He ran away from the spot. The shopkeepers and residents safely evacuated the students.
One of the shopkeepers in the market Amandeep Singh said that they first rushed towards the bus to rescue the kids. He said the driver was not there but the conductor helped in evacuating the children safely from the bus. A motorcycle parked near the bus also gutted in fire, he added.
The fire brigade however reached the spot and controlled the fire. A fire official said they doused the flames but the bus was completely gutted. The parents take their children home after pacifying them, he added.
