Repeal decision on NH, Centre told

Left Democratic Front (LDF) convener A. Vijayaraghavan has demanded that the Centre repeal its decision to stall highway development in the State.

Mr. Vijayaraghavan said in a statement here on Wednesday that the political decision of the Centre was a challenge to the State. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, who had written a letter to the Centre demanding the discontinuation of work, had yet again proved that he was against Keralites, he said.

He accused Mr. Pillai of wreaking vengeance on the people for politically isolating the BJP in the State. Mr. Pillai should apologise to the people, he said.

The Centre’s decision has come at a time when the State was going ahead with the projects for building a hill highway and a coastal highway. It had imposed the decision without holding any discussions with the State government that had taken all steps for highway development, he said.
