NEW DELHI: Releasing a report card for four years of the
AAP government in the capital, Delhi Congress on Tuesday said the party "totally failed" to deliver on its promises.
Addressing a press conference, Delhi Congress chief Sheila Dikshit alleged that the AAP government had taken credit for the work started by Congress during its 15-year tenure in the city. Moreover, it also discontinued several welfare schemes like Ladli Yojana, free distribution of sanitary napkins and shut down gender resource centre, which were started by Congress, she added.
Dikshit claimed that the government lied about education, health, transport, water and electricity and did nothing to improve their services. "AAP also misled the people on burning issues like women's safety and security, sealing, pollution, and unauthorised colonies," she said.
Despite attempts, AAP spokespersons could be contacted for a comment.
Meanwhile, Delhi Congress acting president, Haroon Yusuf, alleged that AAP had promised to construct 500 schools in Delhi, but could manage only nine in over four years of its governance. "Delhi government had 52 plots for constructing the schools, but it managed to build only nine," he said.
The ruling party, which "gloats over its achievements" in the education sector, had "conveniently forgotten" to fill up 15,000 vacant posts of teachers in government schools, Yusuf claimed, adding that in the past four years, 1.29 lakh government school students either dropped out or moved to the private schools.
Congress also stated that the AAP government also failed miserably in bringing healthcare facilities closer to the people. "AAP failed to live up to its promise of setting up 1,000 mohalla clinics. In the past four years, it built only 183 of them and that, too, by shutting down 111 functional dispensaries," alleged Subhash Chopra, chairman of the campaign committee of Congress.
Chopra pointed out that the Kejriwal government had "virtually destroyed" the public transport as 1,272 DTC buses were taken off roads and not replaced. He added that the
Delhi Metro fairs were hiked twice in a year with the collusion of the BJP government at the Centre.
