“Redmi flagship is expected to come with Snapdragon 855, ultra-wide angle lens, and an in-display fingerprint sensor”

Xiaomi’s standalone brand Redmi is currently prepping its long awaited Snapdragon 855-powered flagship. While we don’t really know the specifications of the phone in detail, the brand’s VP has been teasing quite a few handset’s features on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. He already confirmed the phone would have a 3.5mm audio jack, NFC connectivity, and ultra-wide angle lens. Now, Redmi head Lu Weibing has posted a screenshot of the Redmi flagship which seemingly confirms the in-display fingerprint sensor for biometric security.

Furthermore, the screenshot also shows the battery at 44 percent mark, that combined with Lu’s “Ready to call it a day” caption, suggests the phone could pack a 4,000mAh battery. Additionally, it also confirms the Redmi flagship will have full-HD+ display with 1,080 x 2,340 pixels resolution. According to leaks, the handset is said to sport a 6.39-inch screen, 8GB of RAM, and up to 256GB built-in storage. The phone is also reported to come with wireless charging support, meaning it could rock a glass back panel. 

The upcoming Redmi Snapdragon 855 powered flagship is touted to come with a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 48-megapixel primary Sony IMX586 sensor, an 8-megapixel secondary depth sensor, and a third 13-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens. The cameras could be backed by a dedicated night mode and AI enhancements. On the front, rumours hint at a 32MP elevating camera for selfies and video chats. As for its launch, though not confirmed officially, Xiaomi’s General Manager of Smart Home Division Tang Mu has hinted the Redmi flagship could be unveiled on May 13th, ahead of the Realme X event.

Separately, at the same launch event, Redmi is now reported to launch its first-ever Redmi branded laptop, according to SlashLeaks contributor Sudhanshu Ambhore. Just like the Xiaomi Mi Notebook, the laptop could come several configurations. Since Xiaomi already makes laptops, it only makes sense for its spin-off brand to venture into the segment. Given the company’s pricing strategy, the Redmi laptop could cost relatively lower than the competition. However, it could be a China-exclusive product.
