Although the body has not yet been identified the body is believed to be male, The Courier-Mail reported.

'A number of maintenance workers attended the scene in order to check on the pumping station and located the man's body late this morning,' Inspector Elloy said.

The body, which was reportedly wrapped in an orange body bag, was removed from the tank at around 6pm.

The body was hoisted out of the tank in a joint operation.

Police divers were assisted by specialist fire and rescue workers to enter the tank, and to help with the removal of the body.
